Lenovo designs and builds the ThinkPad series of laptops with businesses in mind. Whether your business uses ThinkPad laptops on the road or in the office, there might be a time when you need a larger screen for viewing video clips or displaying presentations. Depending on the model ThinkPad laptop you need to connect to a television, there are several possible connection methods available. Regardless of the connection type available on your ThinkPad, connecting the laptop to a TV and displaying Windows applications or presentations is essentially the same.
Connect the Television
1.Shut down the ThinkPad laptop and unplug the AC power adapter. Locate the VGA, DVI or HDMI port on the rear or side of the ThinkPad. VGA ports are blue, while DVI video-out ports are white. Some newer model ThinkPad laptops have HDMI ports that resemble a large USB slot.
2.Connect one end of the video cable to the appropriate port on the ThinkPad laptop and connect the other end to a corresponding port on the TV. If the port on the TV does not match the one on the ThinkPad, connect an adapter to the end of the video cable that attaches to the laptop. Adapters allow you to convert VGA to DVI, DVI to VGA, HDMI to DVI and DVI to HDMI. You cannot, though, convert VGA to HDMI or vice versa. Warcraft 3 reforged release date. If you require an adapter, connect it to the end of the video cable that leads to the ThinkPad, and then connect the adapter to the video-out port on the notebook.
3.Power on the TV, and then turn on the ThinkPad laptop. Wait for the ThinkPad laptop to boot in to Windows.
Extend Desktop from Laptop to TV
1.Click “Start” and click “Control Panel.” Click 'Hardware and Sound' and select “Display.” In the Display Window, click the “Change display settings” link on the left.
2.Click the “Detect” button in the “Change the appearance of your displays” window, and select the monitor icon labeled “2.” Click the “Resolution” drop-down menu and select the resolution size you want to use on the TV.
3.Click the “Multiple Displays” drop-down menu and select “Extend these displays.” Click “Apply” and click “OK.” Windows will extend the desktop across the ThinkPad LCD screen and the TV.
4.Use the mouse to drag windows and items between the laptop and TV screens and view two different application windows at the same time.
Display Mirror Image on the Television
1.Click the Windows “Start” button and select “Control Panel.” Click 'Hardware and Sound' and select 'Display.”
2.Click “Change display settings” in the left pane of the Display window and click the “Detect” button.
3.Click the monitor icon with the “2” label. Click the 'Resolution' drop-down menu and select the desired resolution setting for the TV or leave the Windows-recommended resolution setting in place.
4.Click the “Multiple Displays” drop-down menu and click “Duplicate the displays.” Click the “Apply” button and click “OK.” A duplicate image of the Windows desktop will appear on the television.
Tip
- If the TV does not display the Windows desktop automatically, use the remote control for the TV to change the input source. To do this, press the 'Input' or 'Source' button on the remote a few times until the Windows desktop appears on the TV screen.
